The Archaic Indians evolved from the Paleo Indians. They existed between 8,000 B.C - 1,000 B.C. The Archaic hunted deer, elk, bighorn sheep, rabbits, and rodents. They occasionally gathered wild plant foods. These Indians used projectile points on their lances, spears, darts and other weapons used for hunting. They also used a tool called Metate. A Metate is a stone tool that is used for grinding hard materials such as nuts and seeds.
